Take a deep dive into a variety of works including Oceans Eat Cities, a world premiere by composer Neil Rolnick, with live video by Luke DuBois. Oceans Eat Cities realizes actual Climate Central data by creating a clear musical theme that is submerged in stages according to the percentage of cities consumed by rising seas. The piece is written for and will be performed by Face the Music and their stunningly virtuosic teen string quartet, Quartet: This Side Up.
A full-fledged player in New York City’s vibrant contemporary classical scene, Face the Music, directed by Jennifer Undercofler, has rapidly become what Allan Kozinn of the New York Times has called “a force in the New York new-music world.”
Also highlighted on the program, FTM will team up with new music monster violinist Mary Rowell (ETHEL founding member), to tag-team a variety of new and recent works by Sam Friedman (FTM composer), Katherine Hoover, Paris Lavidis (FTM composer), Missy Mazzoli, Daniel Bernard Roumain, and Caroline Shaw.
